Manos Del Uruguay Alegria

I was in Starlight Knitting Society for their amazing sale at the end of February, and I saw a basket near the checkout. There sat the most vibrant skein of yarn I had ever seen! It was so red and lovely. I picked it up and squished it to my face of course. I wanted it so bad but I had already picked up enough yarn that day. So… I put it back.

Later, during the beginning of the month of March I went into the shop to start the Beyond the Pines: Starlight Knit-A-Long and there it was again. So red, with splashes of pink and white. I normally don’t like red, but this was just calling my name. I was sitting with my friends Katie, Simi, and Brittney and we were talking to another knitter. She said that when she finds something that is calling to her like that, she resists and when she goes back to the shop and it is still there…then it was meant to be. I resisted again though.

I missed the second week going into the shop for the Knit-Along, but Simi needed to go back to the shop on a different day to pick up some yarn for the class that she is teaching. While we were there she sneakily placed the skein into the crook of my arm. I squished it again, called her an enabler and bought it.

This yarn is 75% superwash merino and 25% polyamide. It is perfect for socks I know because Simi is making a pair with the same yarn in a different color.

The company is Manos del Uruguay and each skein comes with a tag that lists the location that the skein was dyed and the name of the artisan who dyed it. The company is a member of the Fair Trade Organization, and is a non-profit organization that is designed to bring rural women of Uruguay more economic and social opportunities. I can totally get behind that! Each skein is hand-painted and no skein is the same!

SO, if you are looking for some great sock yarn that has the most delicious colors, I highly recommend Manos Del Uruguay Alegria (Joy in spanish)! I may buy another skein or two for my stash and keep a look out for a future project of mine using it!
