For March I chose to read a short book. I chose
2016 Reading Challenge: a book you can read in a day
The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy
Now I chose this little book for two reasons. It is short and I have always been meaning to read it. This is Hogwarts before there was Hogwarts! When I was little I saw the movie. I LOVED it. In fact I always thought that Tim Curry was a good guy, this was the first movie I remember seeing him in. He plays the Grand Wizard who is the hearts desire of every witch. There was also a little tv series that I have also been meaning to watch. The movie is ridiculous and does not take itself seriously AT ALL! It is to this day one of the movies I watch on Halloween every year. I will post this list in a blog.
My friend Thasha and I are both reading this book. She bought a copy and it ended up taking her a bit longer than one day because her adorable daughter saw it. She ended up reading it to her every night. So Maddie has joined the wonderful world of MAGIC, it was worth it.
The story revolves around our little heroine Mildred. She is just horrible at magic. None of her spells work right, she is clumsy, and has a real problem with putting her foot in her mouth (Kinda like Ron Weasley).
The setting is Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches which stood at the top of a high mountain surrounded by a pine forest. Sound familiar? I KNOW. The books is not exactly like the 1980 movie, but there is quite a bit that happens the same in both. Also, I said before that Mildred is like Ron Weasley, so wrong. This is a girl for Neville Longbottom. She is horrible at potions, clumsy, forgetful, but in the end she really pulls through for her school and her friends.
There are adorable pictures all through out this little book. I fully intend on getting a tattoo of one of them.
I will be buying all of these books, and keeping them for when I have a kid of my own!
So enjoy this Youtube video of Tim Curry singing the best Halloween song EVER!
